Community Housing of Wyandotte County (CHWC) hosted its inaugural “Center Circle” event on June 15th, 2012 in the Members Club of Livestrong Sporting Park. The event served the dual purpose of honoring one of CHWC’s founders, Monsignor Thomas Tank, as well as continuing his commitment to the urban core neighborhoods of Kansas City, Kansas by raising funds for CHWC. When the evening ended, CHWC had raised more than $120,000, all of which goes toward furthering its mission of creating affordable housing, offering homebuyer promotion and education, and community building.
“We are thrilled to have accomplished our two primary goals for this special event; one, to honor our founding father, Monsignor Tom Tank and two, to tell the story of Community Housing of Wyandotte County, said former interim Executive Director and current board member, Susan Carroll. “It was very important for us to reach a larger audience and to tell of CHWC’s successes and ongoing efforts to revitalize the neighborhoods of KCK.”
During the evening Monsignor Tom Tank was presented with an award in his name. The award will be given in subsequent years to other individuals who have displayed Monsignor Tank’s commitment to “making a difference” in Kansas City, Kansas neighborhoods.
“It was an honor and pleasure to recognize Monsignor Tank for his vision and role in founding our organization at our Center Circle event,” said CHWC Executive Director, Donny Smith. “Monsignor Tank is a man that leads by example through his hard work and dedication to serving others, in not only his pastoral duties, but for the good of the greater community. We are pleased and excited to name our annual Center Circle award in his name.”
The event was attended by approximately 500 individuals, and was generously sponsored by area businesses, organizations, and individuals. A complete list of sponsors can be found by clicking here.
