Went to the C.A.B.A. breakfast last week at the old Pat Hanlon center at 11th and Central. The Fireman from the active Fire Station #9 fixed a fine meal for us. One of the speakers was the newly elected Commissioner Brian McKiernan. Brian has lived in St. Peters’ Parrish all of his life. He is a professor at Rockhurst College, he is the home team announcer for the Ward High School Football team. He sings, acts, does voice overs, volunteered and cut the grass at St. Peters Church for years. Is married, helped raise 3 kids that have went on to college and beyond. I would say he is an excellent example of what a good neighbor is and now he will represent the 2nd district as our new Commissioner. Not everyone will “make” the time to be that involved cause it is about making time but it sure is nice when you are lucky enough to have neighbors like Brian.
We have other “like Brians” in our neighborhood. People that have lived their lives in a singular neighborhood, people that go the extra mile to help others. People that work with kids and serve as role models. People that simply offer a smile to those they pass on the street. People that know, that living in a neighborhood where they can raise a family, teach their children to have compassion for those that are less fortunate and instill in them a sense of civic duty to help their community, a place that everyone is welcome regardless of where they are from, what they look like or how much money they have-People that know the world is not perfect, that all of us on this earth are part of the same family and that our survival as a human race depends on how well we can get along, how well we treat each other and how we treat our planet-People that know thats enough!
Thank you Brian for your service and commitment to our community.
