The “Kid Cave”

November 8, 2017

Gabriela Martinez recently purchased a house with the help of CHWC’s Down Payment Assistance Program (DPA). Gabriela lives with her 11-year-old son, Diego, and her mother Rita. They are from Mexico City, Mexico, and have lived in KCK for 17 years. Gabriela began her journey in May 2017 by attending CHWC’s Homebuyer Education Class and one-on-one counseling. CHWC’s HUD-approved counselor determined that Gabriela was ready to apply for a loan. She was pre-approved and began searching for the perfect home for her family.

Gabriela fell in love with a cute three-bedroom, one-bath house on 53rd and Leavenworth Road in KCK. She wanted to stay in her community but, most importantly, wanted Diego to continue his education at the same school he has attended. Gabriela then applied for CHWC’s DPA program, was awarded $8,000 toward the down payment of her new house and closed on October 23, 2017.

The process was long and new to her, but the family is excited to spend the holidays in their new home. Gabriela and her family had lived in apartments before she decided to become a homeowner, and Diego is particularly excited to have his own room. He also has plans to turn the attic into his very own kid cave and to take advantage of his new backyard come spring time.

We are happy for the opportunity to help Gabriela and her family achieve their dreams and wish her the very best in her new journey as a homeowner.
