A Cup On The Hill

December 26, 2019

Almost four years ago, a couple of visionary young women teamed up with CHWC’s Community Building & Engagement program to meet a critical need in the effort to bring Kansas City, Kansas’s downtown back to life: a public space to gather, to talk, to dream, to work. And to drink the best coffee this side of the state line.

In March 2015, A Cup On the Hill was born- a nonprofit-owned cafe, designed to serve as a catalyst, however small, for downtown redevelopment. Since then, the incredible staff of A Cup On The Hill have hosted dozens of community events, served hundreds of customers, and facilitated thousands of conversations. This transformative community space has been made possible by the support of CHWC’s generous donors, and lots of hard work.

CHWC’s mission is to rebuild neighborhoods, and one part of that work is to provide neighborhood amenities where they are lacking. During our three years of operation we have seen the development of many new businesses in KCK’s urban core- several of them coffee shops and restaurants…. with more in the wings.

With the success of these businesses and the path to future growth in downtown Kansas City, Kansas looking brighter than ever, CHWC has decided that the time has come to close A Cup On The Hill. It is with both sadness and pride that we announce that A Cup On The Hill closed September 28, 2018.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all who have supported the coffee shop over the last three years.

Kansas City, Kansas is a diverse and vibrant community in which Community Housing of Wyandotte County will continue to invest. Please stay tuned for CHWC’s next catalytic community investment!
