EPIC Clay Studio is a community studio located in the Strawberry Hill Neighborhood in Kansas City, Kansas. The mission is to provide the youth of the community opportunities to experience dynamic arts and culture programs that foster community, emotional intelligence and healthy relationships.
In 2010 local non-profits came together to help with renovations and cover utility costs, making it possible for dozens of volunteers to convert an old vacant storefront into an art space. EPIC was created to house a clay studio for community members, particularly those who find art as their only means of expression. The studio offers classes to local schools, as well as seniors and teenagers in the community. EPIC exists to increase arts accessibility to kids, particularly kids with disabilities, but also to seniors, to adults, and to kids with economically at-risk backgrounds.
Through projects like EPIC, individuals become vested in tangible projects and an intangible sense of community pride is created.
